Duo MFA

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds a second layer of security to your SJSUOne account by verifying your identity using a second factor provided through the free Duo Mobile app. Duo can prevent someone from logging into your account, even if they know your password. To activate Duo MFA for your SJSUOne account you will need to scan a QR code on a screen using your phone. You will need two devices to complete this process.

#1: Install Duo Mobile on your Phone or Tablet

#2: Set up Duo Mobile on your account (on 2nd device, preferably a desktop/laptop)

The first time you log in to one.SJSU, a series of prompts will guide you through the self service Duo Mobile enrollment process. The initial enrollment should be completed by logging in from a web browser on a computer, and having your phone with you.

#3: Setup recovery with Duo Restore

If you have an iPhone or iPad, Duo uses iCloud Backup and iCloud Keychain to back up your Duo Mobile app and restore it when you set up a new phone. Please ensure your phone is backing up to iCloud so you can restore to a new phone without losing your Duo Mobile.

Android phones and tablets need to enable Duo Restore in the Duo Mobile app. When choosing a Google Account to back up to, choose the personal Google Account you used to activate your phone when you purchased it.

Personal data collection

Will downloading the DUO app allow for the collection of personal data from my device?

No. Duo Mobile cannot see your user data like your contacts, it cannot read your text messages, it cannot access your photos (but it can use your camera to scan a QR code if you explicitly allow that permission), it cannot access your files, it cannot erase your device, it cannot see information about other applications on your device. Duo Mobile cannot track your location. In general, the only personal data that Duo Mobile knows about you are the service accounts that you explicitly add to Duo Mobile. However, we do not track any personal data about these accounts–only the name of the service. You can read full information here about Duo Mobile Privacy on the Duo help site.
